Gandharva Kala Parisad, an institute of Visual and performing Arts and Literature was founded in the year 1974, by Dr. Dibakar Mishra in association with the eminent gurus of that time. As a Cultural institution it is engaged in teaching and promoting Odishi Dance, Vocal, Acting, Literature and Fine Arts and related art forms. It has played a pioneering role in popularizing and deliberating Odishi Dance and Music in Odisha, India and abroad. Since its inception, it has focused on conserving the cultural tradition of Odisha and strengthening it. In all these years, it has produced many artists of national and international repute. Gandharva Kala Parisad has become a strong medium of bringing together all the artistry in one platform.

It was during the period when Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya was the only institution enabling students to give examinations in Odishi Dance, Odishi Song and related Art Forms, Gandharva Kala Parisad dared to formulate an operational and systematic syllabus in all the visual art fields uniting established Gurus in respective fields. For the first time it invited Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh, to Odisha with the condition to accredit Odishi Dance and Music at par with other established dance and music forms of India. With the vision of taking Odishi Dance and Song to each and every household and enabling them to graduate in the said subjects along with general academics Gandharva Kala Parisad associated itself with a number of organizations as well as opened up nearly 30 branches in all over Odisha. As a result now students can widely pursue their dream in Odishi Dance and singing along with general academics. A number of students of Gandharva Kala Parisad have established themselves as AIR and Doordarshan artists, efficient teachers in schools and colleges in all over India.
